A STRENUOUS RUN, OR IS IT?
The sun was bright and sunny, doing it's usual summer season routine of shining his radiant glow onto the track field. I stepped out of the bathroom, fully changed into my PE t-shirt. Assemble point was at the stand so I went there.
2 numbers came out from the PE's teachers mouth once we were all assembled there. 2.4km run. Signs of restlessness started to grow, people complained of the sun being too hot, others claimed that the fengsui for running today isn't auspicious enough. Still, the PE teacher stood firm in her decision to continue with the run. Of course, the weather is clear and fine, it's a waste missing a jog in this fine weather.
We each find a partner to take our timing and proceed to the track. Once again, people were still complaining of the bad fengsui and all sorts. They really should face up to reality. We did our warm-up and gathered at the starting point. "5, 4 , 3, 2,1 GO!" The run has begun.
I started out with the pace faster than before because I am determined to break my limitation. My sports shoes landed lightly onto the track with a springy feeling. Instantly, I know this is going to be a good run. All my peers are all right in front of me doing their remarkable, really fast "jog". Seriously speaking, I was at the bottom few. Never mind, I continued with my comfortable pace. Not before long I completed my first lap of 400m in 1:50.
2nd lap for me. Still going strong with the consistent pace. I lose sight of my friend Jia Jian whom I believe ran faster than I expected. Shi Jie was long gone since the starting of the race. I still kept the same pace although I was tempted to sprint all the way to meet up with them. 2nd lap ended with a timing of 3:50.
3rd lap came. Still my friends are miles away from me. Running, I continued knowing that once I stopped my dreams will be instantly dashed out of my mind. Maintaining the positive thought I continued with the run. In the 3rd lap, I admired the structure of NYJC which I never used to. I noticed every bit of it, from up from the roof to the bottom of the track. I realised I am rather lucky to have come this far to NYJC, graduate from GYSS, finishing my O'levels. Also, I remembered the times during after my O's, I went out full force to have fun with my friends whom I really adored. Good old days...
4th lap came. A strong heavy panting came from behind. IT WAS RODERRICK! He was sweating profusely. He overtook me. However, he stopped suddenly and I overtook him again. He was a pretty strong runner but he after that overtook I didn't see him again. So things still went on smoothly and the 4th lap ended.
It was the 5th lap where my stamina started draining fast. However, something kept me going. OVERTAKING! IT IS AT THIS POINT I CAUGHT UP WITH MY OTHER PEERS! THE FEELING WAS RATHER GREAT SEEING MY PEERS feeling exhausted from the jog. I know I am evil but it can't be help, it's human nature isn't it? 5th lap was the greatest lap of all, catching up with them pushing my position to the top few.
6th lap came. Basically one word. CHIONG AH!!!!!!!!
FINAL TIMING :11:59
MY 3RD TIME PASSING 2.4KM RUN!
